Karina Pixtun, mi eelo

Running a sustainable and socially-conscious business can seem like a daunting task, but mi eelo’s production coordinator, Karina Pixtun, is up for the challenge.

Creamos sat down with Karina to talk about her experience since assuming her role as production coordinator and her journey through Creamos to mi eelo. Karina first joined Creamos’ exercise classes and later enrolled in the industrial sewing course. Her ability to lead and connect with her peers in the sewing course throughout her first leadership role at Creamos paved the way for her transition to mi eelo.

“I remember I applied in September or October of last year and they gave me the job in January”.  While her new endeavor has been extremely rewarding, Karina noted the emotional and practical challenges of transitioning from Creamos to mi eelo.“It was hard to adapt at the beginning. I had been a participant and peer leader with Creamos for a long time, but I knew that mi eelo was a social business, that it has to be sustainable, and that it’s an additional responsibility that I am in charge of. I was nervous, but sure that I could achieve it.” Karina acknowledged that the journey has not always been a smooth ride, but she has displayed resilience in overcoming challenges and dedication to continuous learning.

In recognizing her newfound responsibilities at mi eelo, Karina discussed helping her team transition from the mentality of participants to employees, “I think my biggest challenge, or that I have had, is to create a professional environment within the team because we have an old mentality of being participants”, but “it's different now, we have a process, everything is reflected in profit and losses." Karina continues to motivate her team to collectively overcome challenges and deliver on their objectives. Thank you, Karina, for your commitment to mi eelo and your team!
